Eggcellent breakfasts in London

A box without hinges, key or lid, yet golden treasure inside is hid.

If you didn’t already guess from the title (and the riddle from ‘The Hobbit’ – I am a huge Tolkein fan :P), this post is all about EGGS!

I didn’t used to be a big breakfast person but, over the years, this has dramatically changed. Eggs are a huge part of any breakfast – for me at least! Boiled, poached or fried, who doesn’t love breaking into an egg and watching that yolk ooze out…right?

London has seriously stepped it up a notch on the breakfast scene and there are so many great places to choose from. So, I thought i’d make your life a little easier and summarise some of the best egg places for you. I’m sure i’ll come across other places in the future, but for now, here you go!

1. Berners Tavern, Berners Street (Central London) – this beautiful restaurant is maybe a bit too glamorous for looking groggy while breakfasting so be warned in advance! The food is definitely worth it though! These Moroccan fried eggs were delicious.

2. Wildflower café, Notting Hill (Central/West London)- this place is a hidden gem. It doesn’t look much from the outside but don’t be fooled by the exterior… (UPDATE: since posting, I’m told Wildflower café has closed! 😭 #Sadtimes)

3. Michael’s Brasserie (North London) – my friend took me to this awesome place and i loved it! it is quite far for me to get to but the journey can be worth it. If you live in North London, you have to try this place out (lots of other options, apart from the eggs)!

4. Caravan, Kings Cross (Central/North London) – they don’t take reservations on a weekend but it’s certainly worth queuing for these awesome baked eggs. Also loved the warehouse feel to the place.

5. Kopapa, Covent Garden (Central London)- a very popular lunch/brunch place in central London. These Turkish eggs are one of their most popular dishes and highly instagrammable if i do say so myself!

6. Hotbox, Spitalfields (East London) – Hotbox has relatively recently moved in to the brunch scene but they are doing pretty well for newbies. These Heuvos Rancheros had an awesome kick to them with subtle hints of spice.

7. Bluebells of Portobello, Notting Hill ( Central/West London) – If you’re in Portobello for a bit of antiques shopping, you need to pop in to Bluebells. The ‘green breakfast’ with the guacamole is #yum

8. Lantana, Fitzrovia (Central London) – this is also quite a busy lunch place so expect to queue – why do all these places not take reservations! In a very convenient location, not too far from Tottenham Court Road, pop in here for some aussie inspired food.
