Cafe Loren is an unassuming, small restaurant based in Camden Market, serving an all-day brunch menu. The restaurant specialises in shakshuka (with fresh homemade bread) which is a traditional Middle-Eastern breakfast/lunch dish with poached eggs, slow roasted tomatoes and a mixture of vegetables and spices. There are 10 different types of shakshuka (menu here) on offer with a variety of toppings like feta, hummus, tahini etc.
I tried ‘The Spicy One’ which was made with fresh chilli, paprika, harissa, red bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic and ginger plus a side of hummus! My favourite however has to be the ‘Homeshuka’ where the dish was served in a bed of hummus – this was delicious!
In terms of drinks, I really liked the smoothies – I tried ‘Tropical Crush’ which was mostly like a juice but I preferred this than the thicker versions!
I wouldn’t however recommend the Cafe Loren Nutella hot chocolate. This was not particularly chocolaty in my opinion.
Overall, if you’re a brunch and egg lover, I would recommend giving Cafe Loren a visit. They also do weekly giveaways with the prize being a meal for two if you post a photo of your food and hashtag it #Shareyourshakshuka – I was amazed to find that I actually won so you’re definitely in with a shot – I never win anything! 😂
